Business management for creatives

Once upon a time...

by strategically handling your behind-the-scenes systems so you can smoothly scale up

Your business shouldn't need your attention 24/7/365

Keeping one part of your brain centered on your business even when you're lounging with bubbles & a beach read in the bath? I know your business is your baby: but you deserve better work-life boundaries.

Because it's so, so much harder to show up as your fully creative self for your clients when you:

Feel like you always have to be "on" or the many pieces of your business screech to a revenue-stunting stop.

Take on clients who pay the bills but don't light you up with creative potential (because you feel the pressure to bring revenue in: even if you spot some fiery hot red flags).

Try to manually juggle multiple projects, while worrying that a ball will get dropped, an email will go unsent, and the client experience will quickly sink into disarray.

Feel like you have to put your own business goals to the side: because you put all your brain power into your client work, and there's no room left for you to focus on your wants, your hopes, and your forward-looking dreams.

Waste whole days trying to figure out how to set up your CRM or turn your Excel spreadsheet into organization magic: when all you want to do is stay centered in your creative zone of genius.

Let go of what you don't love: and let a logistics-minded online business manager clean your plate of the tedious tasks that eat up your time. Through strategic systems that last for the long-term, not quick fixes that quickly fall to pieces.

Something borrowed, something blue. Making absolutely everything easier for you.

Your to-do list is already long enough. Let's take things off, not tack more tedious onboarding on.

Systems shouldn't be stressful. They shouldn't lead to sweaty palms. Or long days on even-longer onboarding calls where you try boil down all the ins-and-outs of your business into a few hours so your online business manager has everything they need to turn your tangled back-end into streamlined *magic.*

From our first meeting, I'll make every question count.

I'll listen when you talk about your wins, the losses, the sunk hours that keep you stuck at the desk until super late in the day, and the processes that leave you with work piled up. And then I'll get to strategic work: without you having to hand-hold every step of the way.

Answers for commonly asked questions

What is it like working with you as an Online Business Manager/OBM (on a super on-the-ground level)?

What is it like working with you as an Online Business Manager/OBM (on a super on-the-ground level)?

When I say that I become a strategic partner when you work with me as your OBM, I really mean it. Which includes tailoring the process to your preferred level of involvement.

After our initial kickoff, we'll meet at a regular cadence (recommended: once a week) to keep up-to-date on your business needs, get project updates, go over analytics/reports, and discuss new strategies.

But I'll say straight out: I love to get close and comfortable with you and your business. Is it hard to understand an SOP because your kid is sick? Let me know. Are you overwhelmed by the thought of onboarding because you already have an overstuffed client list? No problem, we'll make your onboarding feel easy-peasy.

How do I know I'm ready for an OBM?

How do I know I'm ready for an OBM?

It's very likely that you're ready for an OBM if:

1). You feel like you're losing touch with the passion and creativity that made you start your business in the first place. You want to be the visionary CEO again, and let someone else handle all the extra: from lead generation to team management to project execution to system development and execution (basically everything that makes your business run effectively).

2). You have big, big plans for your business that you haven't reached yet. And you know that strategy can help you get there. An OBM's job is to take those plans and turn them into reality for you.

3). You have a set of processes (yes, even if they are manual and messy) in place. Now you want to make those processes work seamlessly.

4). You are ready to bring on a partner (cue the bestie status!) who will act as your sounding board, check in on YOU as a person, keep all of the moving parts in order so you don’t have to, set aside time to outline the overarching vision, navigate the challenges that come with owning a business without flinching, celebrate your business achievements, and make sure you have some fun along the way.

5). You are ready to invest in your business (and yourself). Book a super casual chat to get even more specific about what an OBM could look like for you.

Who do you usually work with?

Who do you usually work with?

Creatives of all types hold a special place in my heart. (That's why I started doing business management for creatives, after all!) But I definitely feel a deep bond with the florists and wedding planners of the world.

More generally, I work with creatives who have poured their whole selves into their business, and are ready to take a step back to relax, breathe, and recharge.

Creative entrepreneurs who are ready to find a better sense of balance in their lives, so they can pour their hearts into the creative side of their business and let someone else handle the rest on their behalf. All while they scale to new revenue highs: because they now have the clarity they need to truly move the needle (while clocking out early every day).

Will I have to learn a specific new software if I work with you?

Will I have to learn a specific new software if I work with you?

Short answer: not unless you want to.

My goal is to make your life easier, not harder. As your OBM, I will learn your preferred software. (Though FYI: I'm already super adept at a lot of systems out there! It will be hard to find one that throws me for a loop.) I'll only make recommendations about new software if it makes sense for your business and goals.

And if we do decide new software is the answer? I'll use my online business management skills to implement it on your behalf, while I create detailed SOPs and host training sessions to get you and your team up to speed.

To help me manage everything on my side, I use Asana for project management. If you would like to incorporate Asana into your business’ workflow, we can absolutely implement that and create SOPs, etc.

I am also a sucker for quick-hit communication and use Slack with my clients so we can quickly address questions or concerns that may come up. As part of your onboarding with me, I provide video tutorials on how to use Slack.

How is an OBM different than a VA or a PM?

How is an OBM different than a VA or a PM?

Wonderful question! It can be difficult to figure out the differences, so here's a quick guide:

Virtual Assistants (VAs) help with basic administrative support. They'll get tasks done, typically by following detailed instructions that you (or your OBM) provide.

Project Managers (PMs) typically oversee one-off projects. They manage timelines, oversee execution, and make sure things go off without a hitch (without strategizing beyond a single project scope).

Online Business Managers (OBMs) take a full bird's eye view of your business strategy. They set up optimized systems and carry things through to execution. So you're left with a smoothly-moving business streamlined to meet your goals.

Still confused about the differences? Get in touch and we'll chat about what best fits where you are.
